Well I finally have a few moments to blog about my fun time at OPRAH. I went a week ago today, even though it feels like a month ago..weird huh. Anyways, I woke up at
4am, left my house at 4:30, was at my friends by 5:00 and at Harpo studios by 6:00am. Waited outside for about an hour (we were 9th in line), still with no idea what to expect. Then around 7-ish we went inside, checked our coats, and had our purses searched (boy do they have EVERYTHING DOWN TO A FINE SCIENCE!!) Then we went and waited in another room upstairs and signed some papers about giving them permission to film us. By the way, I must admit I was really surprised at how small the actual studio/building was (at least the part we get to see). I actually felt quite cramped at times.....and yes, there was only 2 small bathrooms with 3 stalls in them (yes, with all the women that see the OPRAH show, I was shocked). Well when all was said and done, after waiting another hour in the cramped waiting room upstairs, we made it to the taping studio. It was smaller than I had anticipated, but it was great. I don't think there was a bad seat in the house and Oprah was only a stone's throw away from us. Before Oprah came out the production people tried to get us all pumped up (music, telling us the topic) and then they asked us some brainstorming questions so they could come up with some ideas for future shows. This was interesting because a lot of wacky, attention seeking people who would do anything for attention, started telling some of their life stories .... YES PEOPLE, P.S. you said that out loud and most of us think you are beyond crazy!!! Sorry, there really were some "interesting" people. So for all of you that have been waiting to hear what the show topic was ... well ... did I mention as long as it was not about menopause or a book club I would be happy ... well ... it wasn't. Did I get anything for free is the next question I have been asked the most, no I did not. But the show I got to see was a good one, it went really fast. It was on break out reality stars (the title was something like that). The people that were featured were Ruby (from the fashion network) she was a 700 pound woman who is on a journey to lose weight (she now weighs 360ish). Also, Little people: just married (on TLC). They were a cute little couple that just got married, the wife is a pediatrician and the husband is some successful business owner in New York. Finally, they skyped Jon and Kate plus 8 (on TLC), which was really cool. So deep breath out, I was happy with our topic!!!!!
After the show, which probably was only 30-40 mins of actual taping time (due to commercial fillers making up the other 20-30 mins)Oprah talked to us. She was really down to earth and cool, talking about her man and food. So the whole Oprah experience was FUN! I would recommend it to everyone. I would say if you live in the Chicago area last minute tickets would be the way to go (especially if they are fan tickets, ex. you say you are a big fan of Jon and Kate, then you get really good seats.) We got pretty good seats, but my one friend got an amazing seat (right up front). Someone approached and asked if we would come with them (only one) and since my friend got the tickets for us we told her to go. Also wearing bright colors might help you get a better seat. Anyways, I just found the show is airing this Monday.
